Paton-Churdan seniors honored their mentors at a banquet May 10 at the Paton Community Room. The banquet was sponsored by Community State Bank of Paton and United Bank of Iowa- Churdan, and catered by Lidderdale Country Store. Close to 100 persons attended.
Each senior, as part of his or her portfolio, wrote an essay explaining the life lessons learned from a particular adult. The essays were sometimes humorous and always sincere, with mentors being grandparents, older siblings, a teacher, a pastor, or a family friend.
Senior Ken Huang did not attend. His mentor was his host mother Ann Meyer.
Scholarships, the Iowa Bar Association Citizenship Award, and the Bernie Saggau Award were announced at the banquet as well.
Paton-Churdan commencement is Saturday, May 20, at 2 pm at the school in Churdan. The seniors will walk through the school at 9:40 am Friday morning as a tribute to their teachers and an example for younger students. The public is invited to both events.
